			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://itsonly90days.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/tony.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-220" title="Tony" src="http://itsonly90days.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/tony.jpg?w=260&#038;h=260" alt="" width="260" height="260" /></a>Having finished the program on Sunday and taking the day off Monday, I got right back into the workouts and will do somewhat of a modified round 2.  I will definitely not get to all of the workouts and will have a few breaks thrown in during vacations and mountain climbs.  But I am continuing and will keep on pushing it through the summer.</p>
<p>On to my review:</p>
<ol>
<li>Overall this program gives you the opportunity to work really hard.  It is up to you to get after it and push yourself until you are spent. </li>
<li>Generally I got good results with my physique.  I lost about 10 pounds, which was mostly a layer of fat around my waist.  I definitely have more definition in my abs and chest.  However, I still lack much bulk and probably need to add 5 to 10 pounds of muscle to get my weight back to where it was when I started.</li>
<li>I went from having all of my work pants being too tight, to all of my work pants being too loose.  Guess you just can&#8217;t win sometimes.</li>
<li>My pullup and pushup numbers all increased rather substantially.  I set a goal of being able to do 10 unassisted pullups at the beginning of the program.  By the end, I did up to 17 unassisted pullups in a single exercise and generally could do 10 pullups in each set.  (I started being able to do only about 2 to 3).</li>
<li>My stamina and leg strength all improved noticeably.  I went from wanting to quit the Plyometrics video about half way through, to wondering why they did not push harder through the video so I got a better workout.  Also, I have done a few hikes recently and felt really good.</li>
<li>Tony is encouraging on one hand and annoying on the other.  I did not have a big problem with Tony as others seem to, but there are a few segments of videos that began to drive me crazy by the end of the program.  His infatuation with Dreya got a bit old as well and at times just uncomfortable.  There is one video that he comments as she takes off her jacket and then he just kind of stares for a second before rejoining us in the video. </li>
<li>Most of the people in the video are enjoyable to have as workout buddies.  There are a few that got on my nerves after a while, but nothing that I couldn&#8217;t deal with.</li>
<li>P90X was well worth the money and time I put into it.  I feel great.  I am a changed person with my outlook on food and exercise and I look forward to living clean and healthy.  My eyes have really been opened up to a new world of health. </li>
</ol>
<p>Now that I am done with p90x, I get to go attempt the goal I started with.  I am set to attempt to climb Mt. Whitney in 2 and 1/2 weeks.  I can&#8217;t wait.  I hope that there is not too much snow and ice on the trail as most of the group are relative novices in the mountains. </p>
<p>I hope any of you who have read this blog have found it helpful and encouraging.  Keep working hard and keep pushing play.</p>

<p>I must say that the whole end is rather anti-climatic.  Maybe the point is that if you make it 90 days you are invariably looking for the next thing to do to continue down the path of improved fitness.  I definitely am looking forward to what I will do next.  I have 3 weeks until I climb Mt. Whitney, so I am going to try to just be consistent and really take care of my legs. </p>
<p>I will write a review in the next few days, but for now it has been quite a journey.  And one I am glad I took.</p>

<p>I definitely have a love hate relationship with this workout.  I fell really good when it is over, but man does it hurt while doing it. </p>

Whitney preparation.  I did just that.  I went to a trail near my house (picture is to the left) that gains/loses about 300 feet over what I&#8217;d guess is 1/3 to 1/2 of a mile each way.  I went up and down this 3 times with a 35 pound backpack on.  This took a little over an hour and I was dripping by the end of it.  I did get rained on some, but nothing more than a heavy drizzle. </p>
<p>I feel like I got a workout that is probably roughly equivalent to Kenpo X.  Maybe did not burn quite as many calories, but I really gave my legs a good beating.  I do feel semi-guilty about skipping Kenpo as I am so near the end, but I don&#8217;t think it makes much of a difference since I still got a good cardio workout in. </p>
<p>Tomorrow is either yoga or core, I can&#8217;t remember.  Only 2 more days and then I will be a graduate!  I really can&#8217;t believe it is almost over.</p>

Whitney, and I am sure I will be burning as many calories doing that as I would in Kenpo.  It all depends on the weather.  I suppose I should stick with the program since I have only missed one day in the past 87 and that was due to my throwing up, but on the other hand it&#8217;s not like I am sleeping in.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Man alive that is one intense workout!  I think it is much better the second time around as you can remember all the things that you have to do.  I forgot all of the crazy exercises that light my shoulders on fire.  Walking pushups, plank to chatarunga run, etc.  Add on to this that I had to workout in our bedroom and the A/C was out, I was absolutely pouring with sweat! </p>
<p>I still am amazed that these jokers on the video can do some many reps in the prison cell pushups.  I did 10 or 11, which is 30 or 33 pushups and was absolutely spent.  Then you hear they did 18.  I don&#8217;t even know how you can do that many in the time given.  I need to watch and see if they really are doing 6 reps and calling it 18.  Somehow I doubt it, but I can hope, right?  I only have to do that workout one more time and then can forget about prison cell pushups for a little while. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I started off the last week with the one on one fountain of youth yoga.  I had to get up extra early even to get this in as I had to be at a golf course really early.  It was a great way to start out the last week and I felt really loose all day while playing golf.  Probably helped me win the long drive hole. </p>
<p>I like this yoga video and get a good sweat working.  I think both yoga videos are challenging, but this one is obviously not as challenging as the yoga x since it is only 45 minutes long.  However, it does give a good workout.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Day 82 &#8211; Yoga X</p>
<p>I did Yoga X on Saturday morning, but shortened it up a little bit to get it in before we went and walked in the March of Dimes fundraiser.  I did all of the vinyasas, some of the stretching and the yoga belly 7.  I forget how difficult the 45 minutes of vinyasas is and how hard the standing half-moon poses are at the end.  I was stumbling all over the place at the end of this sequence.  Nonetheless, I felt pretty good at the end and was glad to get the workout in before the craziness of our day began. </p>
<p>The March of Dimes was about a 2 mile walk in downtown Austin from the lake to the Capitol and back.  It was pretty leisurely except for the constant up and down with my boys.  I carried them for a lot of the time, but it was a pretty fun event.</p>
<p>Day 83 &#8211; Legs and Back, Ab Ripper X</p>
<p>The last time of this workout for this round.  I am so glad that I tracked my reps and weights in this workout.  From week 1 to week 12, I improved from 8 total unassisted pullups in the whole routine to 100 unassisted pullups in the whole routine.  I cranked out 16 chinups and 17 in the switch grip pullups.  I can&#8217;t believe how much stronger I feel on pullups.  It really is remarkable the improvement that I made over the last 83 days. </p>
<p>Ab ripper was also my last time for this round.  I was perfect on all of the routines except fifer scissors.  Oh well, maybe someday I will be able to do fifer scissors without wanting to cry.</p>
<p>Day 84 &#8211; Kenpo X</p>
<p>What can I say, I have to push really hard now to feel like I got a good workout.  I got a really good sweat going and got myself sort of winded a few times.  I wish I had a heart rate monitor to know how hard I was working in this workout.  Oh well.  One annoyance from the video &#8211; it gets frantic in many sequences with the way they change the shot and switch from person to person.  It can make it hard to get in sequence with Tony when the camera work is all over the place.  This is particularly evident in the last sequence of punches.  I wanted them to just settle down and focus. </p>
<p>Tomorrow is the beginning of the last recovery week.  I get to do yoga and then I am playing golf.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Whew!  That is one focused workout.  I don&#8217;t think I ever paid attention before, but the whole workout throws strip sets at you.  You do two back moves and then two biceps moves, and repeat, over and over and over again.  The curls get to be really challenging by the end and the exhausted biceps makes the pullups very difficult as well.  I did see some really good improvement in the early pullup moves.  I actually got 10 wide grip pullups, which were the ones I have been struggling with the most.</p>
<p>I only have one more resistance workout to go and only 8 more workout days.  I really can&#8217;t believe that I am almost done with 90 days of this craziness.  It has become so much a part of my daily routine.  I really like the way I feel and plan on continuing with a structured workout regimine going forward.  I just need to figure out what that is.</p>
<p>Ab ripper went fine.  Nothing new to report, except that I hate Fifer Scissors with the white hot intensity of 1,000 suns!</p>
